How to Ensure You Enjoy a Cabin Vacation

Have you always dreamed of spending your vacation in a cabin on the banks of the Tennessee River? Then, you have to ask yourself exactly what that dream really looks like. There are many different types of cabins to stay in. You don't want to accidentally book a modern, cottage-like cabin when your dream was to stay in an off-grid wooden cabin. So when booking your cabin, what are the features you should pay the most attention to ensure you have the kind of vacation you desire?

Location

When you think about vacationing on the Tennessee River, do you want to be miles from town in the middle of nowhere, or would you rather be walking distance from shops and entertainment? Pay close attention to the cabin's location. If it's less than a mile from a small town, you can count on a more interactive stay with more people around. If the cabin is more than a mile from town, you can count on a more remote, isolated experience.

Utilities

Cabins come with a wide range of utilities. If your vision involves kicking back to watch TV and cooking meals inside, then you at least need a cabin with electricity and basic appliances. If your vision is more along the lines of sitting isolated and alone in a plain cabin, then you may want to find one that's completely powerless and off-grid. Think about your water needs, too. If you don't want to be drinking bottled water and eating off paper plates, you need to look for a cabin with a well, as most are way too far from town to be on public water.

Distance From River

When you say you want to stay on the Tennessee River, do you mean you want to look out the cabin window and see the river — or do you mean you want to spend less than 10 minutes hiking to the river? There's a big difference. A cabin located further back from the river will give you a true sense of being immersed in the forest and will have a pretty quiet vibe. A cabin right on the river will be noisier. Not only will you have the water rushing by, but you'll hear other people boating, kayaking, and fishing on the river.

When booking a Tennessee River cabin vacation, make sure you know what you're really getting. Pay attention to the utilities offered, the location, and the distance from the river.
